electric windows stick in the cold weather only

Can someone tell me how I can get my electric windows to quit sticking when the weather gets below 30 degrees? The windows work fine in the warm weather and in cold weather until it gets around 30 degrees and then it is as if something is holding them from coming down. Like they are frozen. Is there some type of maintenance that I can do to get them to come up and down as they did when the car was new all of the time? What causes this? What can be done to prevent this from happening in the future? The windows are stuck until the tempature within the car gets very toasty and then the windows will come down. The motor is trying to pull them down and it is as if something is holding them or they are frozen in place until they thaw out it will not come down in the cold weather. This is extremely annoying and I want to find out how I can fix this problem.

Well, there are plenty of ways I'm sure. I, like anyone from areas like me (Minnesota) have had their windows stick occasionally. I have never had my driver's side one stick, even though I leave my car outside, so I never have actually tried to get them free. However, my old car always ALWAYS had a problem with ice on the rubber around the car door, making it freeze shut. I used WD40 to free up those stuck car doors and to prevent it from sticking beforehand. However, I believe I've heard of people rubbing petroleum jelly on that rubber beforehand to prevent it as well.

I'd imagine you could use some WD40 inside the rubber up on the top of the door where it sticks from the weather or something. We all know that you can use that to fix just about anything . They have a list of applications for cars on their site, too. I just noticed that as I was writing this: http://www.wd40.com/Uses/cat_auto_cleans_lubricates.cfm. You can see that on their list, too: "Unsticks car door during cold weather." If you can use it to unstick or to prevent freezing shut of your car door, then surely you can use it to free or prevent your window from freezing shut .

The outside rubber strip against the glass is freezing up . not sure if there is anything you can put on it that won`t smear the windows when they go down. All I can say is to be sure the snow and ice is cleared from window strip area. If you really need to use window in winter months maybe have a credit card or something slim like that to push down inside between strip and glass. Be careful you don`t want to damage strip.
