I was foolish enough to allow my girlfriend to use my '05 TB EXT to drive out into the Dubai desert to go to her Xmas party.
She got stuck in sand and called some guy over to help, who put the vehicle into 4LO and pulled it out. However, he didn't put it back into 2HI once he was done. She subsequently proceeded to drive it back (approx 30KM distance on dry tarmac) in 4LO at 120 km per hour. The vehicle drives perfectly well in 2HI, but I don't know if it's been damaged. What's the likelihood, and how can I tell? |

Re: 120 Km Per Hour In 4lo!
Welcome to AF, you cannot tell if it was hurt by this, that is flat out in lo, I'd change the transfer case fluid for sure. You would think she would have heard the engine at 6k!

Re: 120 Km Per Hour In 4lo!
Thanks for replying.
Her only recollection of the drive back in 4LO was that the vehicle struggled to get up to 120KM per hour. No unusual noises or smells. By the time I got round to taking a look at it, I could smell hot metal, hence my worry. I'll get my dealer to check the transfer case fluid, as per your advice. I have to admit, I don't really understand how these 4WD transmissions work. I guess what I'm really asking is whether it is possible for the vehicle to keep working in 2HI if the 4WD modes are damaged beyond repair. |

If the trnsfer case was damaged to the point 4wd failed you'd have plenty of noises from that area.
