Flashing heater control lights

I have a 98 caravan sport, 165800 miles on it, I had a problem with the spedo, tach, other gages in the cluster all going dead. The dealer looked at it and told me that I needed a new computer for about a grand, then I found reading here that by pulling a fuse in the power dist pod under the hood, it would fix it. and that seems to work, ok now though for about 20 min when i start the van the yellow leds on the ac, vent and rear wiper buttons flash and keep flashing then go out after 20 min or so. Now to night the headlighs are brighting and dimming a bit and the battery light came on. Is this all related or just symptoms of other problems?? Any thought any one?

Re: Flashing heater control lights

The battery light is the key to all of it. Low voltage can create odd symptoms in the electronics of your van. First step is to make sure the alternator drive belt (serpentine belt) is secure and not slipping. Make sure the idle RPM is at around 800.

Your battery light can indicate you have a problem in the charging system meaning either the battery is discharging or the alternator is not providing enough power to recharge the battery or both. Make sure the alternator, battery, and engine/chassy ground connections are clean and tight. If all looks good, Autozone does free system testing. If you can use a multimeter, measure the alternator output at the battery posts with the engine running. Should see at least 13.5vdc. If it's much lower, you need a new alternator. The best test for your battery is a load test. Autozone will do that for you.

Once you have that fixed you'll have to reset the climate control module calibration to get rid of the panel lights. Here's how: "Turn on the blower on high. Simultaneously push the top and bottom wiper buttons on the left side of the ventilation control panel for 5 seconds. All the lights on the panel will light up. Then two lights on the left side will alternately flash for about two minutes and you'll hear the ventilation modes cycle. When just the top light on the left side slowly flashes push that button and you're done. All lights should be out and you should be back to normal. This is the ventilation control calibration test and it resets the ventilation system computer." If your A/C is not working don't do this procedure. You'll have blinking lights till the A/C is fixed.

Re: Flashing heater control lights

How long does it generally take for ventilation control calibration test to reset. I did this procedure and it never gets to the point of the top flashing to signal it has finished. Is it possible that the new computer I just put in could affect anything? Like A/C
