Building the 1983 Lemans winning 956 car #3

Venturing into the unknown for me, I pulled out and dusted off (Literally) the 22 year old Tamiya Rothmans porsche 956. The decals were yellowed so I put them in a bay window for an hour and they lightened up. I am going for a clean build of the historic car with some added engine wire detailing.

Jumping ahead, the body is done as well as glass in place. The decals were very hard to work with due to their age but I managed. Paint is tamiya white and blue followed by dupont clear.

I tried to apply the glass as tidy as possible:

The chassis bottom was painted as per instructions I used tamiya silver leaf for the aluminum areas and slightly weathered it with tamiya weathering kit.

Finally tires and wheels are done. Covers were left off rear wheels as per reference photos of the actual car.

Thanks for looking....

Hi Dave,

great as always.

Somewhere in my self of unbuilt kits I have the same kit, same age as yours and for sure covered with dust, too

Something out of the norm for you Dave. Great work on the decals and paint finish, very nice work. Seeing that has answered my questions regarding Dupont over Tamiya.....

Hot damn! It's looking amazing. Silver leaf is a great choice, and the body is gorgeous.

In your 1st picture the body looks absolutely stunning!! I love the Rothmans liveries on these old Porsche kits and you really have made such a nice job of the painting.I read about putting 'yellowed' decals in a window to restore their clarity and must admit I was a little doubtful myself about it working but you have proved me wrong. You mentioned that you used Tamiya 'blue' for the body colour.Which 'blue' did you use? TS-15 perhaps?
