1997 GMC Sierra K1500 4x4 5.7 L vortec. Front diff won't engage.
Hi, I get nothing from the front diff when i engage the T/C in 4low or 4high. The electronic acuator seems to be working (I took it out and it moves in and out), and the T/C front output spins in the various settings, but nothing else, is there a quick fix or do I pull the diff apart.

Have you tried it with the vehicle moving? Don't get mad, I know someone who could not get his (recently acquired) into 4x4 and he was sitting still every time he tried. Just moving the truck allowed the gears mesh. He felt like a JA when I got it to go in right away by moving the truck and shifting it.

I was talking to a Technician for gmc. and testing a front actuator solenoid on the bench, it may look like it's working fine because there is no pressure against it. that's why it should be check in place.
Maybe try jacking up the front axle, put key in on postion. (but not running) try 4hi in park. if the front actuator locks your front axle. you should be able to turn both your front axle wheels by just turning one with your hand. if it don't engage only one wheel will spin. |
