Lightbulb The Plunge PT.1 (Ferrari 288GTO evoII)

Hello AF modelors,

I'm here to present my build from a damaged tamiya F40. i chose this kit cos i understand this car is the forefather of the F40.

this is what i've done so far...

i'm facing alot of problems along the way. being a novice, i took the plunge to do such a feat & now i'm somehow stuck. with no instruction, no ready-made parts, no guidelines/data nor good photos to based upon...this is really a plunge. confidence level is at all time low now...

more close-ups...

i sincerely invite all AF modelors to join in in my quest, help me in anyway you can, to achieve this feat. good/bad comment please free feel...i've not here to take compliments but to finish an IMPOSSIBLE.

make this build, a collective effort by all AF modelors. let's get united for once!

thankx & cheers!

I think it looks great so far. It looks like quite a daunting task to complete, but I think you should be just fine based on what you've just shown us. Just out of curiosity, how much of the original 288 GTO was carried over to the Evo II?
The body still looks like a highly modified GTO, but I'm wondering how much of the mechanicals are similar.

Well, this is absolutely marvellous work sofar!

I really like what you have done to it, it's just now, the details...

Atleast try to have the bodywork done, then think about the rest. You seem to be almost there, so kick it in second gear!

Re: The Plunge PT.1 (Ferrari 288GTO evoII)

It certainly is off to a terrific start.

I agree to concentrate on the bodywork. The 288 Evo was essentially a rolling testbed for the F40- so for all practical purposes you can use the mechanical parts from the F40 kit- the interior, suspension, and engine are nearly identical except for superficial changes. I've seen pics of Evo's on the same wheels the F40 came on, so they can be used as is from the kit. Pirelli introduced the P Zero specifically for the F40, so it's not unreasonable to assume that the Evo may have been used as a testbed for P Zero prototypes as well- so that should simplify the wheels and tyres.

On the engine, the practical differences are the intake plenums, the intercoolers, and the wastegate servo. These differences can all be scratchbuilt. With the work you've done on the body, I can't imagine you having much difficulty with these.

The cockpit is nearly identical to the F40- including the tub shape, seats, dash, and inside door panels. The floor paneling was done in bare aluminum, but the tub sidewalls were in CF (instead of all CF on the F40).

Also, you can skip the black spoilers on the nosecone-

-they weren't all equipped like this, and it will be easier to leave them off.

But really, get the body right and the rest should fall together pretty easily. You look 90% there already.

Great body work so far! This is certainly an intimidating project but like the others have said, you've started very well! I'm VERY KEEN to see progress here!

PM is short for Private Message- and I'm pretty confident you do know how to do that.

What is it specifically with the build that you feel like you're struggling with?

Wow, what a concept! Patience and clear thinking bro - just chip away and don't get upset with mistakes, they'll lead you to new ideas and progress.

Yes, i am. As you were so kind to say "thanks" in German and your profile says you´re from Singapore, i searched for the correct answer in your language (which is hard to guess as there are 3 different in Singapore ).
According to this site "sama-sama" is the translation for "you´re welcome".
So that´s not right? What would it be than?

Haha...well bruder, there are 4 main languages & over 20 sub ones. we will have to open a new tread if we keep reciprocate each other! hehe...
anyway, for chinese is 'bu xie'...and since i'm a hongkee (from hongkong) it's 'mo hark hei'!!! hehe....

i have a good modeling friend in germany too, so after few years of writing i managed to pick up a few german words...he's a excellent modelor too! you wanna see his works? simply jaw-dropping!!!

the pics you sent me help me alot. i never knew both the front & back of the ferrari sport a 2-stage opening type! i thought hard whether to follow suit or not, in the end decided to proceed as plan...it seems i'm really losing grip on this one.

dank!
