cold weather duramax questions

To all:
Anyone have any comments/suggestions regarding fuel freeze-ups due to placement of the fuel filter?

Do you have to use the radiator cover? Or is it not neded if your fuel is the proper winter formulation?

Has anyone found/made up an effective cover that fits over the filter itself to protect it from air blast while moving?

Thanks in advance
