86 install engine

I have a crate plane jane 350 that was in an originally equipped 305 87 caprice. I want to put it in an 305 86 caprice. I also have the 87 original tranny. Any tips? After doing a little research there may be issues with the the computer and with the exhaust hook up and installation of ac brackets etc. Thanks in advance for any help.

You shouldn't have to change anything, both were pretty much interchangeable.

May be some compatibility issues as the 86 SBC used a one-piece crank seal and the 87 used a 2-piece seal.

Nope, '86 and newer use a 1-piece seal. You have to go back to 1985 to get a 2-piece seal.

The difference between 1986 and 1987 engines are hydraulic roller lifters and centerbolt valve covers on the '87, plus the '86 still used a coil-in-cap distributor. That's it. Since he has a crate engine, that's all moot - he can reuse his '86 distributor.
