Venture 2002- raspy/rattling sound from heater fan/vents

Hi all- wow great forum! Wish I had found this a while back when I was having overheating issues with my van.

I have a small problem(I hope). When I turn on the control for the front heater blower, it works on all setting and I have heat, however, its very rattly and sounds like a leaft trapped on the lower setting and much worse on the higher. Then when I switched it back onto the 1 setting, it sounded very wobby inside. Does anyone have any idea what this might be? I was going to take it into Pep Boys on Monday, cos I am a girl and have no clue. However they started sayig it might take all day if they have to remove the dash. I do have a Chevy tech handbook and had a quick look in there, under front blower heater...and I saw a picture of some sort of housing that the front heater blower sits in and I am wondering if its this that has broken. In which case does anyone know how long it would take to fix please in hours, as I don't want to be ripped off by the garage! Thanks guys/gals

Some sort of debris in the system is not unlikely....have you removed the filters & turned the system to high? This might force something out....or at least get you closer to identifying the problem....

Shelley748, The filters are in the back of the glovebox. There is an access door, lift up and then another door that pulls open from the left. Just replaced mine today. With the blower OFF you can reach down thru the access hole to feel for a leaf or something causing your noise. You can spin the wheel by hand to see if the noise is still there. The motor is fairly easy to pull, just 3 screws.

Fixed!!! As of today..I did what you had suggested and put my hand behind , managed to get a load of leaves out and 4 handful of grass cuttings. Tried the blower withthe engine on- no joy, same sound... So I switched the engine off and put my hand in again. This time I felt what |I thought was a piece of fibreglass insulation and a electrical wire attached to it!! I of course could not see what I was feeling!! When I pulled it out, it was a dead mouse!!! I screamed, threw it up in the air and moved on. I tried the blower again with the ignition on and lo and behold it worked, no more raspy rattly sounds!!
Thanks again- I saved my self over $200 + labor!!
