07 engine temp? Normal or Not normal

Right after I bought this car I hit a deer and took out the front end, So the body shop replaced everything in the front including the radiator but now my question is.....My engine temp run's about 200 deg on the road but when I stop it drop's to 160-170 ish, is that normal or did the body shop screw something up? maybe they didn't bleed the system right, I don't even know how to do it myself yet, but anyways maybe I have a bad thermostat too.. I'm just wondering if it's normal to have it drop the way it does? And how do you bleed the system?

Thanks for the help, Dave

Re: 07 engine temp? Normal or Not normal

My 2007 2.2L, auto levels out around 194°F. I've seen it get up to 215°F on hot days in stop/go. Dunno how to bleed the system. If anything, a bleed screw would probably be by the T-stat neck? Trace where the top rad hose goes. Generally, when you have a remote fill/degasser bottle like the Ecotecs have, there is no bleeder. I'd think 160 is too low for a fully warmed engine, but you would eventually get a coolant temp too low code.

I agree. Mine is real steady around 194-196, when slowing down, has jumped UP a couple degrees. Possibly the wrong thermostat installed? Check with a chevy dealer for proper thermostat and then go back to the car repair shop and find out what they installed. Maybe they reused your old thermostat and it became damaged during the accident?

Re: 07 engine temp? Normal or Not normal

Thanks guys!
I'll have to take a closer look at it. I'm going to look for a bleeder screw by the filler neck area because there has to be something screwed up. I get 195-200 going down the road and it drops pretty fast to 160-170 ish when stopped. Thanks for the temp reading guys, now I know for sure that it's not right.
