Seat belt/headlight/key-in beeper broken?

What little Japanese gremlin would prevent the seat belt beeper/light, and the headlights on and key in beeper from working on an 89 Accord DX?

Also, this should be seperated, but is there a way to repair an existing ignition switch? It seems to be common for these to go out, and mine is hanging up at the point you push in and turn......seems to be interlocked to the "P" shift light in the cluster: when its taken out of gear and "P" lights up right away there's no problem, but when it doesn't come on right away the key hangs up.

Re: Seat belt/headlight/key-in beeper broken?

The ignition switch is connected to the gear shift lever so you cannot remove the key unless the shifter is in park. It does this by looking for a ground on the circuit, the same ground that causes the P light to lite. So the problem is usually with the shifter position switch which is connected to the shifter. if the shifter is in the center console, the shifter switch is on the left side (driver side) under the cover. Remove the cover, and the switch can be disassembled in place and the contacts cleaned and reassembled. This problem is usually evident when it is very cold outside and resolves it self after the car and the grease on the contacts warms up.

As for the beeper (chime), this is controlled by the Integrated Control Unit. Check all your fuses, then remove and check the chime unit. If all checks OK, you need to replace the Integrated Control Unit (ICU).
