What Motors/Trans fit in 1997 Talon?

Hello,

I am looking for someone who really knows these cars.
I am looking to find out what year motors/trans are interchangeably
for the 1997 Talon Vin: "Y" 2.0 L DHOC?

I need to find a replacement motor and Transmission for this car and
I am wondering if a 1998 Talon motor and transmission with fit in this car or for that matter any other year.

What other cars/years use the same motor and transmission?

Any help from the experts on these cars would be great.

Is the turbo or non-turbo motor in it now?

Vin Y is a 420a. There are a number of motor/tranny combos that will fit in your car. Any 95-99 Eclipse RS or GS motor/tranny will fit, as long as any 95-98 Talon ESI. Also, the 95-98 (I think it's 98) Dodge Avenger 2.0L motor and I believe the tranny will fit too, but for sure the motor.

And before you ask, no, the turbo motors will NOT fit without extensive fabrication and about $5000.

Thanks. I checked with a salvage yard about a motor/trans combo with 54K on it (it was a 1998 for $1600) and then I got the car I was going to put it in and found out it was a 1997. Called the same salvage yard back and he said the 1997 is a bit different and now wants to sell me a different motor/trans combo for $1800.00 with 62K on motor and 80K on the trans.

I assumed that this guy did not know what he was talking about and that is why I posted here. I figured the people here would know far more then the guy trying to make $$$ on me.

So, from your post it looks like I would be safe with the 1998 motor/trans for $1600 since this 1997 is a:

VIN "Y"
Year/Make/Model: 1997
EAGLE TALON ESI
Body Style: HATCHBACK 2 DR Engine
Type: 2.0L L4 SFI DOHC 16V

Right ... !!! ?????

yeap the 97-98 are interchangeable. Just make sure you are getting it from a non-turbo style eclipse or talon.

there are minor differences between the years, 95s had a different fuel pressure regualtor, different coil packs. Stuff you can just swap over from your motor.

True stuff. Swap over everything you can, sensors and all. That way you'll have no connection/electrical problems.
