Mileage debate

so i was talking with my dad last night about a road trip that i have coming up. It turned into a debate about which car got better mileage. the two cars i'm contemplating taking is our Acura RDX or our 98 suburban. my defense for the acura was that it gets better mileage than the suburban. He said that last time he filled up the subruban it got 28 miles to the gallon. in my entire time driving the vehicle since we had it i have NEVER seen 28 mpg. Has anyone else seen this kind of mileage?? I find it rather ridiculous that a suburban would get even better mileage than my honda accord.

Re: Mileage debate

My 99 2500 gets 28 miles to the gallon too! While it's sitting in the driveway with the ignition off.

Found this site for fuel consumption averages.

i'm pretty sure either my dad was on crack or he forgot to reset the trip odometer when he filled up. i didn't think 28 was achievable either.

Re: Mileage debate

Sure, it's possible. 25 gallon tank, fill up with 3/4 tank remaining, that means you used exactly 6.25 gallons to go 175 miles

At least all my GMs have a guage where 3/4 is actually about 1/2.

If he actually got that MPG, he was probably chained to the truck in front of him and just idling.
