Re: 99 explorer misfire when cold

Welcome to the forum!

Have you done anything to attempt to resolve this? Which engine does your Explorer have? When was the last time a tune up was performed?

Re: 99 explorer misfire when cold

At this time All I know it is a V6 and the tune up is about a year old but the plugs look good. Have not ohmed the plug wires yet. We are not getting the correct voltage at the map sensor from the harness. Any help would be fantastic...........

Under your hood it will say 4.0 SOHC on a plastic piece usually and the 4.0 OHV looks like this http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/574/xpic2sn4.jpg

The MAP sensor has 6 wires to it, right? On the Red wire you don't have battery voltage, or are you referring to one of the other wires not having the correct voltage?

The Red wire to the MAP shares its feed with a lot of other components, including the fuel injectors, fuel pump relay coil, oxygen sensor heaters, PCM, and Idle Air Control.

Re: 99 explorer misfire when cold

Thanks for all your help!! After reading other posts our problem is in the intake gasket. We used propane to search the leak out. where it didnot show up before (because the engine was warm) it leak was found and is currently being repaired. Again thanks for all the help................
