Installing Remote Start

Hey guys, I know that there is an old thread out there that kinda talks about this, but not much was really actually said in it, so instead of bringing back a dead thread, thought I would start a new one and hope for better luck.

I recently had a Viper 5900 security system installed, but because my cars a 5 speed they didnt install the remote start that comes with it. They left me all the crap to install it myself, but havent really been able to find any info on how to actually go about doing it. Bypassing the clutch isnt a problem because all it is is a switch on the floorboard that needs to be disconnected. My question is are there wiring diagrams in the service manual posted in the stickie? And has anyone installed one before that could possible PM me and kinda tell me whats going on when I get into things. Much appreciated.

Re: Installing Remote Start

Well apparantly you didn't have an authorized DEI dealer do the install of the unit because there's a part# 689M that'll convert your remote starter to become safe to be used on a manual car. http://investor.directed.com/release...leaseID=265033

NO, DO NOT JUST UNPLUG THE CLUTCH SWITCH!!! You are asking for problems and trust me, that switch is there for a reason.

Re: Installing Remote Start

I appreciate the info, and just so you know I did have it installed at a certified dealer...they perhaps do not know about the manual conversion, and the guy told me that it's simply too big of a liability for them to install remote starts on manual transmissions. I'll look into the module (and I am aware that unhooking the clutch sensor isnt a great idea, but until your post was unaware of any other alternative to doing so). Thanks

Re: Installing Remote Start

Yes well the DEI technicians for years have brain washed their dealers into saying that tiff about "liability" and such. The funny thing is that this 689M has been out for over 10 years. It was released only to the Canadian and Alaska markets. For some reason DEI wouldn't let the rest of the US have it until they saw how much they were loosing to their competitors that had this feature built in. For my Compustar units they come manual ready. If I'm installing in an auto car I just cut a jumper wire and that's it.
