worth buying

Iam looking at a 1999 windstar that the seller wants 1500.00
The overall appearance is good to excellent, motor runs good, no noises runs strong. tranny seems to work good, but it has 200000 miles on it. Deal or no Deal.
Thanks

Re: worth buying

If it shows no rust or accident repair ... I'd say its favourably priced. Expect engine and tranny repairs soon ... so allow about $3k added in your thinking. Does it look that good?

I've seen some Winnies that look so good, I'd give $1.5k for them even if they currently had engine and tranny issues.

If it has 200,000 miles I sure he did some work to it.. If not maybe there hope for my Windstar. Fair deal at 1,500.

Re: worth buying

Yes the the van looks great, The interior is practically flawless. What concerns me besides the mileage is that the abs light is on the engine light is on and another light in the lower right side of insturment cluster is on, not sure what that light is. Test drove it today seemed to drive good but as I was backing into parking space a noise came from the steering, like a dry ball joint socket. The car is at a dealership, and of course the salesman knows nothing about the car. Oil is clean, tranny fluid smells a little burnt, and it looks like they used a whole can of spray paint to touch up the engine compartment.
Thanks

Re: worth buying

Oh that may take another 1,500 to find out why all the lights are on. I am sure the rack is shot for the steering.. If you won't to put a lot of money in it go ahead. But if there were no lights on and no noises it was a fair deal. With the engine and ABS lights on thats most likely why the person had it before got rid of it..Cheaper to get another car or van.. Sorry.. Just my advise. But if you want a tinker toy then it maybe fun.
