Re: Replacing alternator on 91 explorer
Welcome to the forum!
I'm not very familiar with the '91, but I'll ask a couple of questions in anticipation of others having the same questions. Are you referring to some vacuum hoses that pass over the top of the alternator, or are you by chance referring to a wiring harness that is taped to a retainer and the retainer is attached to the alternator shield? If you are referring to something that is affixed to the alternator shield that can rotate, that sounds like the type of retainer that just presses into a hole. You should be able to either cut the electrical tape that holds the wiring harness to the retainer, or carefully pry the retainer out of the shield. The shield will likely need to be transferred to the replacement alternator. If I'm way off, you may want to describe what "hoses" you are referring to. -Rod |

Re: Replacing alternator on 91 explorer
Some of these hoses are connected with a clip just take pliers to them clips squeeze them together and pull it back on the hose and some of the hoses ya just jiggle off.
