96 Grand Caravan fan always running.

I have a 96 Grand Caravan and as soon as i start the van the fans would kick in and wont stop. I pulled the codes and i got codes 22 and 44. Engine coolant temp sensor and ambient temp sensor. I assume the ECT is the one making the problem or am i wrong? but i dont know what the ambient temp sensor really does or how can it be causing the problem. I also have an issue with the van when trying to start it , specially when cold, the van will click ( relay and starter ) but it wont rotate .. could it be a bad solenoid or something else.. sometimes it will take me a couple of tries to get it started and sometimes during driving it would stall when driving slowly or stoping and will try to stall on freeway speed but starts up right away. No codes are stored about this problem though. Could this be a starter or alternator problem? Any suggestions will be great.

Re: 96 Grand Caravan fan always running.

If the fans are shutting off when you turn off the van then I would suspect the ECT sensor as you have described.

If they stay on after you turn it off, then I would say the fan relay is stuck open. This is a problem I had which will run your battery down and cause the starting issue you describe. That issue, however could be something entirely unrelated (loose/dirty terminals, weak battery, etc.). Good luck!
