Trim

I want to polish my "aluminum i think it is but im not sure" trim molding on my car but i dont know what to use. I've tried using "noxon" which is a multipurpose metal polisher but after i put it on the dull foggyness seems to reappear. I assume this has to do with the type of metal it is so does anyone know how i should do this?

Re: Trim

The trim, from my observations on my car seems to be coated with some sort of clear finish (I saw surface cracking like paint when I bent up one of the broken trim pieces from my old station wagon) and I also remember being told that the trim is stainless steel, but that doesn't make sense to me because if it was stainless, then there should be no need for any coating. I'm almost sure though, that the bottom door trim pieces are stainless steel because there doesn't appear to be any sort of coating on them and they are closer to looking like chrome than the rest of the trim. Assuming there is some sort of coating on the trim and metal polish makes it foggy as it does on paint, then try some good rubbing and polishing compound. The rubbing compound will take away any yellowing, stains, or discoloring, and the polishing compound will get rid of the fogginess and give it a nice shine if done right.
