Dead Windshield Wiper

On Saturday while I was out running errands one of my windshield wipers died and I'm not sure what I should do next. It's the passenger wiper and it won't go anywhere, but the one on the driver's side works just fine. So did I blow a fuse or short a wire? What happened?

Re: Dead Windshield Wiper

Your electrical system and wiper motor are fine. Both wipers are run by one motor and are connected to it, and each other via a simple system of rods. The passeneger wiper apparently worked its way free from the rest of the system.

Remove you windshield wiper arms (index the arms to the shafts first so you can install them with the correct alignment).

Then remove the black plastic grill beneath the wiper arms and have a look inside. You should see your problem pretty quickly at this point. Take some pictures if you don't mind.

PS - It's funny, I was just thinking to myself the other day that the one system I've had absolutely no problem with on these cars is the wiper system. Engines, transmissions, door locks, windows, brakes, headlight circuits, brake circuits, suspension, ignition... but no wiper problems. Year/Mileage?

I will get right on it and get them working because it is now snowing again. I have a 1994 with over 171,000 miles on it.

Re: Dead Windshield Wiper

Actually I didn't have to remove the grill at all. It was as simple as removing the covers on the nuts that hold the wipre arm in place. Than just tightening up the nuts and everything is up and running again. Tahnks for your help 91Caprice9c1.
