front axial squeal

i have a 98 sierra 1500 and when my truck is in 4high and im going down the street anywhere over 10mph my front axle makes this very loud squealing noise. i turn up my stereo and i can still hear it. i dont know if it is a bearing or the front diff. i just put a posi lock cable kit in and all replaced the fluid. does anyone have any ideas?

thanks

Re: front axial squeal

I was taught never to run a vehicle in 4WD on the street. Is that still true?

or are things different now.

Re: front axial squeal

You put a posi lock in the front axle? What does this so called kit do? Lock both front axle together?

If so, that can be dangerous to control on snow and lce, those are only for OFF-ROAD use. It may be signalling you its binding up. Any axle that locks and stays locked is not ideal for on road use. You don't want it loced when driving on the road. A normal GM axle will tranfer traction side to side as needed where the locker won't and thus you have less control over the vehicle. All the once

PS-My first new 4x4 was a 1975 Chevy Blazer and I have owned GM 4x4's since up my my 2008 GMC Z71
