Exploding Rear Window in Blazer

Anyone else had their rear window shatter in their Blazer? Mine gave it up mid-way through a 45 minute drive on a snowy day. The defroster was on, The wiper wasn't used(I never use the window scratcher - er - wiper). The defrost had been used on the way to the place I was going, and I've never had any issues, and it's cold about 6 months out of the year here, this thing just blew up out of nowere, WTF? anyone else had this happen? Just wondering.

Check the timer for the rear defroster. If it stays on too long the glass can overheat and, well, you experienced it!

Re: Exploding Rear Window in Blazer

I would assume it's working, since the new one hasn't done this yet. Plus, The defroster had turned off before the window blew out, and I had turned it back on a few minutes later. If I was going to check the timer, how whould I do so?
Thanks for the reply

Turn on the rear defroster, the indicator light should stay on for approximately 10 minutes. The glass needs time to distribute the heat evenly before cycling the switch again.

Yeah, doubt it, it happened fairly late at night 10 miles from any houses... or anything at all for that matter, I had similar thoughts for a second too, though.

Yeah, the timer seems to be working... Just can't get 10 years out of a window like this anmore? Oh well, I found a window on Ebay for 225 shipped, got it here faster than the 1300 window would have been to the dealer.
