86 golf diesel

i have an 86 golf 1.6L diesel naturally aspirated that is leaking fuel from the fuel pump(between the distributor head and pump) have called all the diesel injection shops close to me and the lowest price i've gotten so far is $450.00 one was as high as $1400.00. i think that's just ridiculous to put a seal kit on this bosch pump. was wondering if anyone had any advice or resources that i don't know about, i can buy the seal kit for $25.00 but i've never taken one of these apart before and don't think i want to try.
thanks in advance for any help

Re: 86 golf diesel

I had an 85 with the very same problem, it's pretty common. I took the dist. head off and replaced that big O ring. There's a lot going on in there and you have to be on you game to put things back but it can be done fairly easily, just take your time.

You will find info about doing this job at this link.

Good luck
