transmission help

my trans takes to long to shift from 1 to 2 and i have no overdrive or reverse 5.7 tahoe 1997 what should i do new trans or can i try some thing.i posted a thread all ready but i cant type this in it

The reason it takes a long time from 1st to 2nd is that it is probably shifting from 1st to 3rd. No reverse, 2nd and 4th is a broken sun shell (common issue, unfortunately). There is an upgraded sun shell that should be used if you rebuild.

my friend has a 99 safari trans. we don't know what size motor it came off of but from what i seen the wire harns and plug and trans lines look the same will this work on my 97 tahoe 5.7L

I would check with a local salvage yyard for info, their interchange books can guide you
