Not me. Street racing has always seemed pointless in it's mindless drudgery. I'd prefer to speed at sanctioned courses.

hah, most of us here, including myself, have no where in a 50 miles radius to race

so we race where we can and especially when we can

Mindless drudgery? i dont think your using that term correctly, I dont think you have any idea what the whole scene is about. If nothing its much more exciting, taking 2 people putting them head to head, add in the huge danger element of getting caught, wrecked or killed, and it becomes one of the most intense exciting aspects of racing out there. Not to mention no fees, theres a track on any clear street, no waiting for races, no fat old people talking about the good ole days, when they dont even drive there cars more than 5 days a year, no trailer queens, and plenty of cool people and its becomes a whole lot more appealing that AutoX or going to the strip.

I believe I used my comments correctly as it was an opinionated comment. I think the "danger of getting caught or killed" only adds to it's stupidity. Sure, the "track" is free, but it's not actually a track. I think the thrill of Laguna Seca or the skill required at Willows Glen would be much more appealling in my eyes.

As for the "cool people" there, I suppose it's different where I live. All of the people that street race where I live are pot-smoking losers.

This is an argument that I won't win because you are all set in your ways just as I am set in mine, I just wish to voice my personal opinion.

Your oppinion is fine but when its directed to look down upon us I take offense to that and will voice mine. I think you wanted the confrontation or you wouldnt have posted at all, If i could get onto a track like willows glen or laguna seca i would certainly race there, but since, like 99.9% of the people who dont have access to a track other than weekend AutoX in the local Wally world parking lot I would rather street race, which, like all forms of racing , is dangerous. I would rather run mine than watch other people and think "how cool is that, those guys are driving really fast while i get to sit in this nifty lawn chair or stadium". If you can race there, more power to ya, but i dont think i would be able to drive my z28 on it. The only way im gonna see those tracks at this point in my life from the inside of a car is on a playstation or dreamcast video game, and I prefer more realistic experiences to those.

I would much rather run at a sanctioned course, but ill make due with what im given for now.

Street Racing

I will have to disagree with the both of you. I am a member of SCCA and also have participated in many racing events such as drag, AUTOX and TRACK TIME at Siebring, little talladega and ROAD ATLANTA, I have also participated in many illegal street races from Miami to Atlanta. I have been in several wrecks and i thank god that i am still alive. All of the wrecks i have been in where due to street racing, I rolled over in a street race almost killing my self and others watching the races. We used to race is a road called "Stairway to hell" it was made of many extremely sharp S turns that where very banked allowing any car with a descent suspension to go at speeds u could normally not achieve in any other turn. I have owned and built many sports cars in my 22 years, and i currently own several RX-7s from 1985-1994 Twin Turbo Edition with many mods. I love both forms of racing but in the streets you are responsible for other innocent peoples lives. So before you go out there and race in the streets please be sure that u atleast know the road real well, keep an eye out for cars mergin into the road you are on and also for people watching the races. Remember its best to loose sometimes and have a chance to raise again, than to go for it and possible end your life or the life of others. I strongly believe in sanctioned events and SCCA is a great way to start. Trust me there is no feeling like going around a track 80laps inches away from other cars at speeds of up to 160mph, taking turns at 90 with the rear end slighty drifting out, Slowing down from 160mph to 40mph back to 160mph through turns, straights and kinks. Also SCCA provides a great platform to race for those with very little or no budget at all. Street racing is fun but in the long run you will realize it does not pay off. I have lost 3 friends to street racing and 0 to SCCA racing. I have lost 2 cars to street racing and 0 to SCCA racing. I dont mean to bore you all with this because i do love both forms of racing but we can all clearly see the price you will pay eventually for racing in the streets.

Have fun racing, be carefull and vaya con dios

The latest issue of Sport Compact Car makes a statement against street/road racing, and how bad it is. While I can certainly see their point, I can't buy into it either. Racing is dangerous, but also fun. And if done in moderation, it's still dangerous, you've got me there, but the risks can be cut way down. I personally just race on wide highways with few bends in them, plus I am lucky enough to live in Connecticut, which is frankly a speeder's paradise. Many big, wide, multi-laned roads with 65 speed limits, generally in good shape (the DOT {Department Of Transportation} of the State of Connecticut has a mind-bogglingly large budget and a relatively small number of square miles over which to spend it), and the cops just don't pull you over as frequently as they do in many other states.

I know its irresponsible, juvenile, and dangerous, but hell, I just can't help myself.. and I for one am not a reckless idiot about it, which is when I ceases to be tolerable in my book.

you guys should think yourselves lucky to even be able to do street racing. in england it is hard enough to find a decent straight road with lights, let alone one without a speed camera on. i have been on track before, and it is so much better than the street racing i have done, but only if you are in an extremely fast car. going round a track in a normal car seems pretty boring and pointless. but street racing in any car can be great fun if you can control you're car and are aware of you're surroundings

Yea well when you live in Canada there is alot, and i mean, alot of straight pieces of road........almost everything is straight....and for that "Jack Handey" guy........if you are so against street racing, why the hell are you wasting your time in the Street Racing Forum?

Rally style

only racing i do is on our gravel roads, drift style, haha, it's fun, with rear wheel and a small bore v-8(it's a 77 Caprice Classic, only 60K miles on it) go in the corners 35-45 mph, right in the middle of my apex i just floor it and watch the gravel fly, i just gotta watch for traffic cuz of the damn corn fields. it's all fun though, having to countersteer, 1..2..3 times, haha. i'm assuming it's a small bore with long stroke cuz it has a hell of a low end, but not much high end, when speeding up comin out of town it always downshifts to get goin faster.
