I saw a thread here recently that listed all trouble codes for Aleros of various years. I am trying to find the thread again, but can't. ( I tried using the search utility)

Could someone please send me the link?

It says grand am, but they are all relevent to N-bodies.

U1040 - Loss of Class 2 Communications with ABS
Wasnt sure if the "U" codes were on that thread.

Sounds like a bad connection.... had you recently changed one of the wheel speed sensors ?

I'd check those, then the ABS mod connectors under the pass seat.

thanks for the advice, I will check into it.

p.s. as soon as I cleared the codes, my rad fans shut off and the coolant temp gauge started working properly. This tells me that it is not a wiring issue to the coolant temp sensor, nor the coolant temp sensor itself that is causing my other problem. (Fans going on as soon as the car is turned on)

After clearing the codes, the fans work properly for a few days, then they go back into being on all the time and the coolant temp gauge stops working again....fun fun...

I'd get the fans relays tested or replace them.
Also double check the wires for the temp sensor right at the plug in.
I've seen these wires get damaged and cause some issues.

I will buy a couple of new relays and try that, though I doubt that wiring or bad relays could be instantly fixed by clearing codes. It seems like if I clear the codes, everything is fine for a couple of days.

The only code I get that seems related to this is something about the thermostat (I forget the number). However, the car runs at the correct temp so I don't think the thermostat is faulty. I am guessing it is just the coolant temp being a little too low that is generating that alarm due to the fans being on.
