2001 Sonoma blows oil filter ring

Truck has been starting hard in the morning last few days, but then this morning the oil pressure gauge pegged out and the oil filter o-ring blew out and I lost all the oil. I replaced and refilled, but same problem. I also pulled of the housing that the filter screws into, but I can't see any problems there. Anyone know what's happening? Thanks.

Their should be a pressure regulator where you screw on the oil filter. Normally you can unbolt them. In the side their is a spring and a ball. If you buy new parts you have to install a test gage and adjust it to the proper pressure.
I would either buy a new unit and gasket or buy one from a scrap yard with a new gasket from the dealer. The unit in the side should be an allen wrench fitting. You might be able to only remove this part. Be careful it isn't only plugged from lack of oil changes.
