Manual hubs

I have a 94 Explorer 4x4 and just installed manual locking front hubs. I know better than to drive on dry pavement while in 4wd, but is it okay to keep the front hubs locked? My wife delivers mail and can not get in and out all the time to lock and un lock the hubs. This time of year, you never really know when the next road might be covered in snow or mud. I'm just wondering if I can keep the front hubs locked and then shift into 4wd as needed. I know only to shift into 4wd when stopped. Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Manual hubs

Yes it's deff. ok, I do that on my 92 I been driving around especially in the winter with them locked in no hurt there and im guessing obviously you have an electric t-case since you said you just switched to manual hubs, if you still have that electric t-case then you can engage your 4X4 while driving just not recomended to do it over 55mph, It's fine just don't engage it if you start to spin, if you start to spin then you need to stop and engage it, other wise it's fine I mean heck I do it, cuz if your going down the road and you run into a snow drift and you have people behind you, ya don't wanna stop to put it in just push the button and you should deff. be fine. If it were bad for it I wouldn't tell ya it's ok. If you would have the manual shift t-case then yeah ya would need to stop. If your scared to do that just try doing it at 20mph and you'll see you won't hear a crunch/clank/boom or anything you wouldn't even know it went in if it didn't have 4X4 lights to let ya know.
