An Interesting Conundrum...
So several years ago, when I was test driving Jeeps, I came across one with 110,000 or so miles on the odometer and a soundbar in the back...you know, the type that are for Wranglers?
Well, I didn't know that then, so I was wondering if maybe my mind is playing tricks on me or if this is something you can actually do, because if it is, I think I might have just found my next mod.

Re: An Interesting Conundrum...
Did the Jeep have a roolbar in it. That's what the soundbar bolts to but I can't see any reason with a little ingenuity one couldn't be installed without the rollbar.

Re: An Interesting Conundrum...
My '98 has a soundbar in it... At the back hatch, this is the rear left channel.

Re: An Interesting Conundrum...
Wow, that looks really slick...no, the Jeep didn't have a rollbar (from what I could see, nothing visible, if there was one, it would have had to have been mounted inside the plastic)...
I'm in the market for a new Jeep, a 2000 or 2001... Any info on the sound set ups on these years? Do they replace the speaker mounts in the liftgate with the roof hardpoints or what?

Re: An Interesting Conundrum...
It depends on the sound package.
The roof one is on the premium sound package with a CD player and equalizer. |

Yup. That's what I've got. '98 Limited w/ CD & EQ on the head unit. Also have a seperate's set up in the front- speakers in the front doors w/tweeters up by the windows/side mirror area.

Re: An Interesting Conundrum...
Good deal, I was looking somewhere in the region of an 00 or 01 myself...since there arent' any appreciable differences between the two I know of other than child seat latches...
Now...big question...anybody know the colors available? If I'm gonna talk to the guy brokering the deal for me, I'd like to have the exact Jeep factory color names, so I can get exactly what I want...

Re: An Interesting Conundrum...
Personally, I'd go with a '99...
It's the last year b4 they instituted the 'Pre-Cat' System. Performance is always an issue here. -> Jeep |

Re: An Interesting Conundrum...
But I thought that for 00 and 01, the power and torque increased? Which is of course why I was interested in those two years anyway, hahah.

In case you care.
It only matters if the vehicle is 4X4 and you are lifting it. The high pinion model is prefered over the low pinion in this instance. Specs of Front Axles: Dana 30 high pinion - reverse cut - 27 spline, 1.16" diameter shafts, 7.13" ring gear - used 84-99 (some axles through 91 are vacuum disconnect, 92+ are non-disconnect, 89-95 with ABS have 5-297x u-joints, all 95+ have 5-297x u-joints, all others have 5-260x u-joints except 84 thru 86 they were CV type rather than open u-joints) Dana 30 low pinion - standard cut - 27 spline, 1.16" diameter shafts, 7.13" ring gear, 5-297x u-joints - used 00-01 |

Re: An Interesting Conundrum...
In '00 with the emissions change that caused them to design in the pre-cat system, they compensated for the added exhaust restriction by putting in a much larger intake manifold.
See here- http://go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoIntakeManifold1.htm The overall gain in HP in '00 was only a few ponies anyway. Not really noticable, I would imagine. |
