Oil pressure light 2001 2.2

The oil pressure light is coming on at low idle, around 536 rpm. If I rev up a couple hundred rpm it goes out. Only does it when up to operating temperature. The oil level is full.
What is the diagnosis, to increase rpm, replace the oil pressure switch, or could it be an engine trouble?
Can't figure out how to manipulate the throttle cable to increase rpm either.

Thanks

Your idle seems low to me - but I wouldn't lose much sleep over the oil pressure light. If anything the switch is probably getting bad.

Re: Oil pressure light 2001 2.2

Is the idle that low in park, or is that in gear? If in park, your idle is way too low. Does the oil smell like gas? If so, you could have a head gasket issue. If not, try slightly bending the idle stop tab on the throttle to bump up the idle. If you're running 5w30, you might want to switch to 10w30, as it is slightly thicker and may help.

Re: Oil pressure light 2001 2.2

I've got a new switch and socket and now trying to find the darn thing and get to it will be a chore I'm sure. I am using 5W30 oil. There's no smell of gasoline and I did an oil analysis last change and it did not show any dilution.
It's not knocking or making any strange sounds, so that is good.

the oil pressure sensor is on the back of the block near the oil filter.

Thanks. I'll get my lights and mirrors and see if I can locate it. Probably will need smoke and mirrors to get it off.

Re: Oil pressure light 2001 2.2

After much angst and manipulation and a trip to the store for a shorter socket, finally got the oil pressure switch replaced. Light does not come on as before so looks like that problem is fixed. If you ever have to replace one, get the shorter of the two sizes of deep sockets. There is not enough room for the longer one.
