Jeep Cherokee not shifting properly

Hey Guys,
Having a little trouble with my 1996 Jeep Cherokee not shifting properly. When I accelerate it wants to hang in first gear far to long. When it does this (4 out of 5 times I leave a stop) it will stay in first gear till I lift completely off the accelerator before it shifts into second gear. If I mash the accelerator after it shifts, it will kick down and hang in the lower gear again till I lift completely off, then it shifts up again. The transmission is tight, no slipping or unusual noises from it. It is very well maintained and the vehicle only has 69k miles on it. (I know that’s low but I’m the original owner so I know it’s accurate. I live 1.2 miles from the fire house so it doesn’t get a lot of miles on it) The problem started about 4 days ago when the temperature dropped to near freezing and it is a very consistent problem, only shifting properly every now and then.

I have poured over this sight and everything I come up with is pointing towards the TPS sensor. For $32.50 at the local parts store that I trust, I’m hoping this will be a simple, inexpensive fix.

Does this sound like I’m on the right track or am I missing something less obvious?
How do I properly adjust the sensor during/after installation?
Is it possible that the sensor in the vehicle just needs a minor adjustment?

I would also check the MAP sensor and the vacuum lines running from it to the throttle body. It could also cause the symptoms you described.
