'02 Silverado 'Expanding Can' Sound
Lately I have been hearing a 'pinging' sound from under my Silverado shortly after shutting down.
Sounds like an expanding metal container in the heat of summer. Has continued even in our wintery cold weather. Checked the gas cap; no excess pressure in the tank after running. Everything is running fine (except for my new blower fan problem posted below!) Any hints? Thanks! ...John |

Re: '02 Silverado 'Expanding Can' Sound
It's the exhaust system cooling down. I think there is a TSB out on this. It can be annoying, but it doesn't affect the performance nor will it cause any future problems. Mine does the same thing, but it's no big deal to me.

Re: '02 Silverado 'Expanding Can' Sound
My 2000 and my bosses 2001 both do this. It would've scared the crap out of me when mine did it if I hadn't heard his do it first. Just one of the many normal noises you get to enjoy, owning a Silverado
