What are the benifits of each and what should I get? And what is a good realativly cheap brand? I only need the 2 front door speakers and I will have 2 15" subs to acompany them.(which most of you have heard probly a thousand times if not all of you)

Re: 2 3 or 4 way?

get 2 way. unless u are talking about a componot type of set of 3 ways. and the benfits of 3 way is that each speaker can play in the area where it shines in and not just ok at.

Re: 2 3 or 4 way?

2 way(coaxial)<2 way components<3 way components

Wouldnt recommend 3 way speakers (tri axials) waste of money

Re: 2 3 or 4 way?

A good brand for speakers is Pioneer. You get really good sound quality for the amount of money you dish out for them...depending on what size speakers your car needs, which since they are in the front I'm going to guess it's either 5 1/4" or 6.5". Price wise if you wanted to go with Pioneers you can pick those up at just about any electronics place for between $50-$70 a pair.
But, it's just a suggestion, those are the speakers that I've put in both of my cars and I even put them in my parents car and it sounded better than the old Bose system in it.

As for 2, 3, or 4 ways...when you get above 3 ways they're a waste of money. If your going to go with coaxials definately stay with 2 or 3 ways.

Re: 2 3 or 4 way?

Okay I found one that I realy like and has like 35 perfect ratings on crutchfield but that could mean nothing. Its a Alpine SPS-17C2 6-1\2" 2 way.
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...SPS17C2&tp=105
There like $100 which seemed a little high compared to the others but are the realy any good at all?
And what does it mean when they say the tweeter is Pivoting?
And can my head unit power them ok if it has 50X4 watt output?
And should I get 2 or 4 of them?

Re: 2 3 or 4 way?

The Tweeter is on a pivot so it can be positioned to direct the sound towards the listener, you'll actually get better stereo imaging directing it to the listener than having the highs bouncing around the interior before reaching the ears.

Re: 2 3 or 4 way?

if you're speakers are in the doors, you wouldn't want the tweeters pointing up at the near listener. A 3 way front stage and sub(s) in the back is the best way to go. They are also harder to install, more expensive and a LOT harder to tune.

Re: 2 3 or 4 way?

I think the three way would be too complicated and just plain to much for me im just going to go with the coaxial. But is that one that I found any good?

Re: 2 3 or 4 way?

Depending on your head unit, they usually dont really put out 50watts and even if your going with some low watt rating you should use an amp, it not only feeds continuous power but it makes it so that the speakers can go louder without stressing on the head unit and without distorting as badly. Bottom line you'll get much better sound quality if you run it through an amp.

Re: 2 3 or 4 way?

Crutchfiend is one of the best in the business for the most part. One little discrepancy I know that they say some decks/DVD monitors won't work with some Chevy trucks due to a depth issue, but, truthfully, they will after removing a certain plastic peg in the dash.

Don't buy your stuff from Crutchfield. You've posted here in the Audio section enough to the point that you don't need to. Go to Ebay, find some cheap 2 way speakers and buy an amp for them and they will sound all right at the very least.

Re: 2 3 or 4 way?

Crutchfield is very expensive. Woofersetc.com has better prices. The speakers you mentioned are not bad, would sound better with an amp. You will reach the limit pretty quickly however. If you listen to music at moderate and not super high levels, they should be ok.
