2003 Impala Erratic starting problems!!!
Have a 2003 Impala 3.8L 231 which I have to had jump-started twice in the last week. Turn the key and click,click,click--nothing. As far as I know it's the original battery but mechanic says battery, alternator and starter are ALL fine. Drove it 50 miles after last jump-start and it starts OK until ????

I'd check all the cable connections at both ends, have the battery load tested by someone else.

Re: 2003 Impala Erratic starting problems!!!
If the lights are coming on and cycling (dash indicators, battery, security etc...) this means that the passlock system is malfunctioning which is a very common problem. If you are getting nothing then you do have another problem.
To take care of this put your key in the ignition and turn to the "ON" position and leave it for 10 minutes. Take the key out after 10 minutes and repeat the process (2) more times (3 times, 30 minutes total) This will reset the passlock system to recognize your key. Also please go the the website for the National Highway Traffic Safety and register a complaint, this is a common problem with Chevy and if enough of us complain they will be forced to do something.. https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov Thanks |

Re: 2003 Impala Erratic starting problems!!!
You said "click, click, click -- nothing. If you mean turn the key and no sound whatsoever, check the crank relay may be sticking ($12). It's under the hood in the electrical panel. I've replaced two of them. The first time it happened I pulled out the old one and tapped on the ground to check if it was stuck. I've had these cheap relays go out on fuel pump and starter now about 3 different cars.
