Broken PCV valve on a 97 Grand AM

Hi,

At my last oil change the tech told me that the PCV valve was broken and he taped it up. 2 weeks later (I know I procrastinate) the car died on the highway and the mechanic is telling me the engine is pretty much dead... IS this possible from a broken pcv valve?? Can it cause oil to stop flowing properly?

thanks,
mike

IMO the pcv shouldnt have caused your engine to die...

I'd get a second opinion about your motor's death.....

Any other strange things been going on with the motor ?

Re: Broken PCV valve on a 97 Grand AM

Well for the last month or so it has been reving when the car is stopped. It has also been doing some lurching (like someone is pinching the gas line or something)

The car stalled on friday morning, but started back up fine. then that night on the highway it died again, the motor just shut right off after the check engine light started to blink...

the mechanic got it running on only 3 cylinders and it sounded very bad. He said that the engine had been running on low to no oil... even though I checked it less than a week ago. I had read that a broken PCV can cause rapid and inefficent use of oil.

He said that in order to locate the problem he would have to start to tear down the engine
