Boogered spark plug hole threads.

Yep, I was in hurry inspecting spark plugs. Boogered threads on # 2 cyl. '88 Accord LX 2.2L 5 speed. I didn't strip it ,just crossed it. Can't I just chase the threads and clean them up? If so what size tap?

How far did you run it in before realizing it was not right?

Sometimes all you gotta do is since you cut new threads that aren't right, start the plug against those wrong threads, in essence cross-threading the cross-thread, and when it finds the correct threads it will start to go in smoothly...then take it back out, crank the motor over a few seconds with the plug out to blow any shavings out of the cylinder, then carefully thread it back in...

This is if you didn't go too far into it before stopping, obviously. You have to still have good thread in there too...

I don't know what size you need. I do know that before you run anything through there, make sure you have the piston at BDC, if you even bump or nick those cast pistons with a tap, they will fracture...

If you use a section of fuel line hose pushed over the top of the plug as a handle to start them into the bore, you'll never cross up another hole...impossible to cross them with a rubber handle....reaches into tough spots too, handy on some engines.
