Stabilizer Links

My 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix was recently rearended and needless to say there was substantial damage to the back end. After two weeks of repairs I picked up my car on last Friday. I drove it around quite a bit over th weekend to make sure everything was alright. I noticed while going over some bumps there was an odd clunking noise coming from the rear right tire of the car. I brought the car back to the same shop today and they said it was the Stabilizer Links? The continued to say that this was a wear and tear issue not related to the accident. I informed them that didn't make sense to me because before the accident there was no such problem. Are they blowing smoke up my butt or is there some truth to this? Should a I get a second opinion? How much will it be for this issue to be fixed? Could a guy do this himself in his garage? Someone please give me their opinion. Thanks.

Adam

Re: Stabilizer Links

The stabilizer links can be replaced by a DIY'er with just regular hand tools. This is a normal wear item unless it was bent in the accident. If it is bent it should have been replaced by the body shop. If not you can pick one up for about $35 to $45 dollars and replace it yourself. Try NAPA as they usually have parts like this. The dollar figure may not be right as to actual cost since I haven't priced one lately. (If you PM Richtazz he may be able to help you out.)
