99 GA Airbag replacement

Hello, My airbags deployed after hitting a curb and blowing a tire. I called a few body shops and it looks to be VERY expensive to get them replaced. Does anyone else have experiance with this? I found a source to buy them for $350, but I dont know of there are other components (like in the bumper) that also has to be checked?

Also- can I just not replace them? Is it a law that you have to have them functional? I live in PA.

Re: 99 GA Airbag replacement

Questions like this are asked and answered all the time here. There are specific items that are required replacement items when a deployment occurs, and there are some items that are "check only". Check out this website for the EXACT answers to your questions. This site tells you exactly what needs to be replaced (seat belts & all) after a deployment on over 3500 cars.
It's little money well spent to get the correct answers and to see exactly what you're after...it uses pictures, not text, so you can see what you’re looking for.

Good Luck...it's not too bad of a job & if your state allows it, used parts or parts from ebay should be ok

Re: 99 GA Airbag replacement

Yeah marco242polo thier's at least 2-3 things in the front clip that would probly need replaced, and if you just hut a curb probly not much else, besides the air bags.

Was that $350 for both sides air bags?
If that was for just one AB it seems high, I'd shop around.

Though it can be dangerous!!
Static can set them off real easy and you have to pull the steering wheel off, disassemble everything.

Good Luck

Re: 99 GA Airbag replacement

Guys,

Thanks for the info. That web page is excellent. The car is in the shop for an estimate, but if it's as high as the guy there guessed, I may be subscribing to that web page and doing this myself.

The $350 was for both bags.

Re: 99 GA Airbag replacement

$350 for both is a pretty good deal.

Btw used air bags can also be used
