heater fan

Hello
I have a 99 sunfire with heating problems. The fan starts but after about 30 seconds it dies out and wont start again for awhile. I can tell when its starting to die because I hear a slight clicking sound comming from it. If I leave it on full when im driving It will kick in after a whyle than die again. It started to happen at the end of last winter than like magic it worked great all summer so i at least had airconditioning but as soon as the cold kicked in this year it died again. Is it a big job to change it? Can a broke non mechanicly inclined guy like me figure it out? Im gratful for any help.

Re: heater fan

blower motor is pretty much done..however you can easily replace the motor yourself. I would suspect the motor to be around the $30-40US range but that is an estimate.

Go get the motor at your local parts store, call around for price comparison first if you are broke lol.. then follow this guide, it is fairly easy to do you may have to twist your body certain ways but.. you should be able to do it.

I would recommend taking the old motor out first, or assessing the work.. just so you don't go buy it and can't put it in yourself. Take it apart, put it back together then when you get the new motor you can do it quickly.

Re: heater fan

Nothing *hard* about it, just a pain in the *** to work your arms up to one of the screws, (it's wedged up against where the top of your toes go when your sitting in the passenger side seat.... I got it out with an 1/4in ratchet and socket, shove the heck out of the padding/carpet, grunt, cuss, etc, just don't break too much .
