Geoff Brabham Brickyard 1994

This is the car that Geoff Brabham drove at the inagural race in 1994. Seeing it was an Australian making the race and one of only a few Aussies to race in Nascar it has some relevance to me.

Working on the chassis and fixing the small things that drive you mad, like sink marks and having to fill the gaps in the firewall and along the chassis.
I have also attached the front and rear clips and filled the gaps there, and then sanded all the moulded lines under the hood. I may add my own bracing, time will tell. I still need to clean up where i took the window net out and then remove the seam lines on the cage.

The body is now painted and ready for decals. I made the mistake of spraying this with Tamiya grey primer and when i did the gloss white and i think i may have thinned it too much and it had areas where you could see the darker areas underneath. I rubbed it back lightly then put a coat of white primer on and then the gloss white and i think it is saved.

Decals are 99% done, just a few small ones to still add. It is not 100% accurate but i can live with it. I am still playing around with the white decal on the nose, i need to double this up again to hide the grill decal. Now back to the chassis and engine side of things.

I like the livery of this car. Looking forward to more of this as well as the engine.

Looking good Shunter, love the subject.

To do the white tape, try using the white tape plumbers use to make screw joints water tight. Would just need to glue it down.

Re: Geoff Brabham Brickyard 1994

I have managed to get some colour onto the chassis and so that is now ready to start addding the engine and running gear. Not sure if i will add any extra detail or not as i am not 100% happy with the decals so maybe it will just be a nice shelfer. I will clear the body this weekend and see if it hides the areas i am not happy with.

Shunter did you clear over the decals last or did you polish the white then lay down the decals and clear again?

I have not as yet put clear over the decals, i will use two pack as i have tried Tamiya TS-13 before on this brand decal and they do not like each other. The body was cleared then rubbed down and polished before i did the decals.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Re: Geoff Brabham Brickyard 1994

Well i have had my first experience with using 2 pack. It is nice to work with bar the smell and of course the care you want to take for your own health. It certainly has a shine and looks good i think. It went on OK but i shook the hardener can before i poured it into the paint jar and it has caused a few bubbles/pinholes, the last pic shows the marks i have in the paint, as you can see they are like small pinholes. I am letting it sit for a day longer then i shall sand it down and while i am at it clean up the mess from the clear around the window openings etc.

Re: Geoff Brabham Brickyard 1994

Shunter,
Looking very good!!! Those pinholes are called fisheyes. Next time you get one, run inside after you discover one and open the airbrush bottle and with a clean brush load it up with the clear and dab the fisheye and fill it with clear. The self leveling characteristic of 2K clear will level out the bump that will be left there. If not you can always polish that area once the clear sets up....
