1998 Explorer XLT Fan Motor

The fan motor on my 1998 Explorer XLT only works on the 2 highest settings. I have seen this with other vehicles that had a circuit board attachted to the fan motor causing this problem, is this the same with Explorers as well?

Re: 1998 Explorer XLT Fan Motor

It sounds like, since you suggest you have discrete blower motor speeds, that you have the manual climate controls (knobs and dials). If that's the case, yeah, the blower motor resistor could be the problem.

The blower motor resistor is in a slightly different location depending on if you have a V6 or the V8, but in all cases, it's mounted in the blower motor housing accessed from under the hood. It will be screwed into the housing on the passenger side near the blower motor at the firewall.
