Tail light Issues/Int Light Issues

Car: 2001 Grand Am 3.4 2 door.

About a month ago my service engine soon light started coming on at what seemed to be Random times. After a awhile i figured it was the auto lights that would come on when it started getting dark *or i drove under an over pass*. It seems thats All my tail lights are not working. My head lights are working, But the Fog lights are not. The insterment panel lights also are not working.

In addition to this is that there is an Issue with the dome light not working correcly. It does not shut off, sorta like the doors not shut. i think it might be a door sensor issue.

Re: Tail light Issues/Int Light Issues

Check your fuses first for the exterior lights. I would also turn on the lights manually and check to see what working and what's not working. For your dome light check the door plungers and make sure that they are fine and not stuck or broken. Also check to make sure the switch on the roof isn't in the "ON" position instead of the "Door or auto" position. Hope this helps some.

edit: I just re-read everything. Check to see if you brake lights themselves are working. You should have 2 lights in each lamp and 3 in the center trunk lid. The light housings are notorious for leaks in the seals causing water to get in and having them short out causing them to stop working. For the dash light is it the SERVICE ENGINE SOON OR THE SERVICE VEHICLE SOON?? Both these lights mean different things.

Re: Tail light Issues/Int Light Issues

i've pulled and check the fuses for everything that looked light it might be related. the Dome light won't shut off if it's set to Auto, So i have it manualy shut off. The Driver side door dose not stay open on it's own, Which i think might be part of the issue with the dome light/door sensor. It'll close the second you let go, but i'm not sure where i can look to check for the door sensor.

The Barke lights work fine. It's just the Reverse lights, fog lights, insturment lights (regardless of dimmer) and Taillights when the Headlights are on

Re: Tail light Issues/Int Light Issues

Did you check the under hood fuse box ?

Have yo checked the light bukbs in the Rev lights and fogs ?

The fogs are known to have issues with the wire harness right where it plugs in. I've seen them work intermitantly, even my friends 05 sct...

Sounds like you need to get it scanned with a good scan tool.
It should show why the SES or possibly the SVS, light(s) are on.
Other wise its just guess work.

Re: Tail light Issues/Int Light Issues

I check it with my OBD2allinone tool. It shows me hte check engine infomation, and not the SES light information.

I don't think it's the lights, it seems strange that 5 bulbs would all die at the same time. Since the internal Dash lights are also out.

Re: Tail light Issues/Int Light Issues

On your door not staying open, that would be a white plastic clip that holds it open in the hinge area, they tend to break and then the door always closes on your leg, I hate that!

So what dtc's did the scan tool pick up ??

Sounds like your cluster might be malfunctioning.
Or worse your BCM malfunctioning....
Does your GA hav a sunroof ??
