Oil Pressure-99 silverado 6.0
I posted before but got no real answer.
99 Silverado, 6.0L, C2500, 2WD, 65,000 miles, oil & filter changed every 3K My oil pressure runs about 50Psi, on acceleration it rises to 60-70. When Ilet off accelleration the pressure will then spike to 80, which is the max on the gauge, so I am guessing there is something wrong. I tried a different brand oil filter no change. I also have an oil cooler and the top hose is beginging to leak, I am wondering if it is due to pressure. Could something be blocking up like the rod bearings? I am not sure of the path of oil flow, and if there are any parts in there that can go bad. I also could not find the oil pressure sensor. The engine is not knocking or ticking. Any help appreciated. |

Re: Oil Pressure-99 silverado 6.0
I think your next step would be to unscrew the oil pressure sender and plug in an oil pressure gauge. Then go drive around and watch the gauge to see if it does the same as what the gauge on your instrument cluster does. If the gauge reads normal then it could be a bad sender or a bad cluster. I know some of the newer chevy's have problems with the clusters doing weird things but I don't know about 99's. The crappy service literature I have at home shows the sender on top of the engine but I can't tell if it is the front or rear of engine. I'll look on alldata tomorrow to find an exact location.
As for the oil line leaking, I wouldn't suspect high pressure to be the cause. I have replaced a lot of oil cooler lines just because they are junk and leak becuase they wear out.

Re: Oil Pressure-99 silverado 6.0
your oil pressures are normal for non synthetic oil. the spiking on decelaration is an electrical problem most likely the connection to sensor or the I.P. if you had a bad crank bearing or worn it would cause low oil pressures at idle. replace oil sender first. this is located on rear of intake manifold drivers side under intake plastic cover torque to 15ft lbs need deeeep socket............

Re: Oil Pressure-99 silverado 6.0
Those hoses are junk. If those use the same oil cooler setup as the 4.3/5.0/5.7 (I'm thinking they do), you'll want to replace both cooler hose/line assemblies, and inspect the oil filter adapter on the block.

Re: Oil Pressure-99 silverado 6.0
Thank you to all for replys. Have been away, in middle of divorce. You know how problems all come at once. I will look for sender unit and try a gauge in there. If not I am sure I will have an accident watching the dash oil guage. Nice to now have the feeling that its nothing major.I will also have to replace the hoses. I am sure they are probably a dealer only part. If the wife does not get my money the dealer will I am sure. No I do not run synthetic, I run Castrol GTX 5-30. Changed every 3K. Any further info will help I will post when fixed, or verified with guage. I am sure the dash cluster thing is a bank buster, so it will stay that way forever if that is the problem. Thanks Again |

Re: Oil Pressure-99 silverado 6.0
the oil pressure will read 80psi /max if the oil sender circuit is open, it most likely is the sender or conn. to sender. but could be IP connections or internal IP circuit.
