Fuel Pump 101

I have a 96' 5.7L I purchased knowing that whenever it rained , a day later it wouldn't start until what ever the moisture interupted dried out.I suspected no spark but using my timing light aas a spark tester it appeared I had spark. So I went to fuel next. When I turn on the ignition I didn;t hear the fuel pump whirring for 2 seconds as my shop manual implied. I went to the fuel pump relay and had a good ground to one side of the relay coil but no 12v to the other side. According to the schematic, this comes directly from the PCM. I haven't metered out the dark green/white from the relay to the PCM yet, but I would think the fuel pump prime thru the n.c. relay contacts should prime the pump for initial start-up. I guess I'm asking the question, am I going about trouble shooting this problem the right way?

Sounds like it. You should have 12v into the relay and 12v out during the prime event.

You are in the wrong forum, please post a new thread in the proper forum for your van, thanks.
