Fuel Rail Removal

Hey guys, how hard is it to remove the front fuel rail on our cars? Is it just the 4 screws (2 on each side) and the 2 up front and that's it? I was trying to find some stuff on it and read something about having to relieve the fuel pressure somewhere something about O-rings being extremely sensitive when reinstalling the rail...any ideas!?! Also, are there any settings that I need to mark before I take everything apart?

what are you taking if off for? umm I't should be way easy.. but I have always pulled the rail together.. so i take off the manifold and everything.. but it should be easy and you shouldn't have to mark anything

I think you think it's more complicated than it is. It's not like a timing belt removal.

It's just unbolt hold down bolts, unscrew fuel lines (fuel may come out, just kinda be prepared for it unless you want to go through relieving pressure, its not gonna like cover you or anything), and pull up...for the whole rail anyway. The o-rings are rubber, if you break one, cheap and easy to replace...and if they're hard like plastic you may just want to replace them all.

So whatcha up to that you're doing this?

Well, I finally got my parts back from LNC (incomplete of course) but I'm still pretty determined to get my engine detailed somehow. So I found some chroming shop in TX on 3SI (Brian...heard anything bad about him guys???) and will be getting certain parts chromed (intake pipe, plenum, valve cover, spark plug cover, battery tie down, top of oil dipstick maybe) and other parts will be polished (front fuel rail, exhaust manifold heat shield maybe, and nuts/bolts). So yeah, that's why I was asking about the whole removal thing because from the way it looks, it doesn't look hard but when I was reading a bit it seemed like there might be more that I needed to do.

Oh yeah Jason, I'm gonna probably need to order some more parts from you. Nothing really major this time though. Umm...you know that plastic piece right in front of the intake plenum where wires run through? It cracked so would you be able to get a hold of one? Also, I may just go ahead and get those rubber pieces from you too. I'll let you know once I get everything I need together. Oh, and I still need to pay you for the last order...you haven't given me the total yet. Haha Let me know bro...thanks.

Alright guys, I pulled off the fuel rail today and have a couple of questions for ya'll (yeah, I'm originally from Texas - haha).

1. Are these the o-rings that you guys were talking about that needs to be replaced to prevent fuel leak? I'm assuming I just gently pry it off!?!

2. How about these insulators (the black piece):

They feel hard like plastic to me but I'm not sure if it's actually plastic or old rubber!?!

3. Also, below the injectors on the rear valve cover (between the injector and the VC), there seems to be some type of ring/seal...does/can that be replaced also? You can't really see it in this picture but it's there (it was too dark for me to take pictures tonight but I could take some if needed tomorrow):

4. How would I go about cleaning the injectors?

Yeah, lots of questions but I'm trying to get all my bases covered so when my parts get back I don't have to worry about fuel leaks and so forth.

No they are talking about when you take off the fuel rail, right where it unscrews, on the inside, there are small rubber o-rings. When you take off the fuel rail, you will find them between the front fuel rail and where it connects to on both ends. They cannot be seen unless you have it taken off.

I was talking about the injector o-rings as well as the ones ^^ mentioned.

my orings somehow stayed in the fuel rail when I took off my injectors. Just used a coat hanger bent in a tinny U to reach up there and get it.

When you unbolt the w rail there will be two seals/o rings. Very easy to find and take out.
