wipers won't park in normal position

My 92 Lorado's wipers work but when windshield is somewhat dry to dry, won't park in the normal position, especially the passenger side, driver side somewhat up. The end of passenger wiper will be about 10" up. If you shut off the wipers when the windshield is absolutely wet (lots of lubrication), the wipers will go all the way down, sometimes even past the windshield. Actually they overextend both directions when running with a very wet windshield, but when semi-dry don't travel far enough. Have had this problem a LONG time, just learned to live with it (still may have to). Anybody had this problem, and a cure? Thanks.

Re: wipers won't park in normal position

Heya bug...

No, I can't say that I've ever even tripped over this kind of issue in the past three years.

But, I have changed wiper arms themselves.

First, I would imagine that your wiper motor is getting weak, going out on you.

Second, there are 2 things that could contribute to the uneven thing.

1.- There are splines that hold the wiper-arm in a proper position to the motors action. They could be stripping/stripped.

2.- There is also a linkage system (under that grill-thing closest to you while driving, just beyond the windshield, but not the hood) that connects one wiper to the other. Perhaps there is a loose nut/bolt etc... causing the uneveness.

Either way, it's a pretty easy fix from a pick-and-pull junk-yard.

~Good Luck!

Re: wipers won't park in normal position

My 92 sport does the same thing but not as much severity. Originally they would go past the windshield and onto the body (have bare paint spot) and would not go all the way to end travel, so what I did was turn the car on and turn the wipers on and as soon as it got all the way right before it started to go back I shut the car off to keep them locked there. Then I just pulled the arms off and turned them so they would line up correctly, on yours it might be the wiper motors themselves that have gone out needing replacement, don't forget they're likely 15 years old.
