Alternator problem?
Hello,
Last night was driving my 2000 Olds Bravada when the battery light came on. I watched as the voltage gauge for the battery slowly started to drop. It eventually got into the red and shortly after I lost all my internal gauges and lights, as well as my any other lights on the vehicle. It stalled out shortly after that. I jumped it and was able to start the vehicle up again and drive it home, but it did the same thing after about 2 or 3 minutes of driving. My feeling is that the alternator has died on it, but I wanted to get a second opinion before spending the 200 bucks for a new one. Any help will be greatly appreciated Thanks |

Re: Alternator problem?
Welcome to AF!!
The alternator is bad and needs replaced. If you can't handle $200 right now check with a wrecking yard. You should be able to get a good used one for about half the price of a new one if not less. When you put the new one in make sure you remove the battery terminals since a short can destroy the new one. Also recharge the battery with a charger prior to starting your vehicle. This will insure that the new alternator lives a long life! |
