From the car To the room?

Ok first off yes i know this is a CAR forum but I dont know who else to ask. Ok soo my parents are getting all pissed about the idea of having a "new driver" and a big system. So now there telling me (because they know how bad I want this) that I can put it in my room....Is it even possible to get car audio parts (sub and amp) and make it were you can plug the amp into an outlet and have everything work perfectly? And another thing my parents dont realy know how loud its going to be ( by the way its gunna be 2 or mabe more depending on how bad I want to punish my parents for not letting me put it in my car diamond audio 15" cm3 with a 2006d hiphonics amp) and if its in our house wont it practically shake the house and neighbors in like a mile radius? and can you get in trouble for that?

So here was my plan: I was going to get some kind of home audio radio\cd player that lets you hook up your own speakers to it, but then I would need some kind of way to get enough power to the subs for cheap so thats were the car amp comes in (beacause what I need is cheaper if it goes in a car rather than in a room) so how would you fix this?

Sell it all and buy proper home audio equipment. I'm sure you're better off.

It sounds like your amp is putting out a lot of juice. Hard to imagine pulling all that from AC current when designed for a car battery if you don't know wiring and/or electronics.
You could, of course, hook up the sub to a home audio receiver but you won't find one with enough power.

I'm sorry man. Your parents sound like complete idiots. What do they have against bass in the truck? And why put up with your loud bass in the house when its easier and more peaceful for them to deal with it in the truck?

Re: From the car To the room?

Ha ya see thats whta im saying. And they think its going to be too big of a distraction. OK so I wont use it while I drive for like the first 2 months or so but then it becomes a big argument. I cant even do my own hobby. Im just going to have to convince them that I have to have it in my car and if I cant do that im gunna make my room so banging that the police station can hear me across town. Not to mention the damge it will do to our house caused by all the vibration I mean I could be shaking the paint right off the walls.

So there is technically no fix for it unless I spend BIG MONEY and get a DJ amp but I already looked at those and there wasnt one that I could use that wasnt under like $600. CRAP!

Re: From the car To the room?

You can definitely use the sub on a home receiver or similar if you really wanted to, just like any other typical speaker. Problems are receiving the power at the proper ohms and having enough power to drive the sub so most likely not a good idea for you to do. I've run crappy, low powered subs that I didn't really care about on home audio receivers without issues.

The current home audio subwoofer my dad has is an 18" and pumps around 1000 watts. It shakes his house whenever he feels like doing the "Maxell" thing.

Re: From the car To the room?

inside of a car amp is a DC-DC convertor that bumps the voltage up for more power. To get a convertor that puts out enough amperage to run these big bass amps, you probably have to spend more than the whole stereo is worth.

Sounds like more than a hobby for you though, sounds like you can't wait to annoy everyone in the neighborhood. Trust me, it won't make you "cool" - just a target for punk thieves. Your parents are also most likely concerned that you will screw the truck up trying install this stuff. Try in small steps, like replacing the head unit and stock speakers. Then amp the new speakers. It can be a lot more work than you think, especially keeping it "stock" looking.

MDF is pretty cheap ..... most lowes or home depots carry 2'X4' and 4' X 8' sheets in 1/2", 5/8" and 3/4" thickness. For sub boxes, you will be needing the 3/4".
