Window Motor 2001 Ford Windstar

Went out and removed Window motor today and cleaned the motor and greased gear box.. Knowing the 2 revits had to be drilled which I did a while back I went with the cut to access the 2 bolts that were hard to get to. Seeing this now you can use a drill bit larger than the 7mm or 8mm to drill a hole to access the bolts.I would say two 15mm holes would work with room to spare for the nut driver.. I posted some pictures on my photo page. Starts out with the cut off tool I used at the end of page 2 and all of page 3 has the rest.. Hope this helps. Re: Window Motor 2001 Ford Windstar

When I did my 2001 drivers side window motor I think I used a 1/2 inch drill bit to drill the two access holes. The metal door panel has punch dimples already in it at the two places you have to drill.

Step #1. Make sure you support the window in the up position with tape. Otherwise when you take out the motor the window will fall down.

Re: Window Motor 2001 Ford Windstar

Yea after hitting the motor a few times mine started working. So I was able to get it down. After i cleaned the motor it works almost like new with a little weak spot in the middle but my drivers side sounds the same except the right sides sound just a bit more weaker. Yea I only did the cut isea just to find out what was back there. It looks horrible on the pictures almost looks like a big giant gap but there really is not. The speaker with a washer and nut now on the ends instead of the plastic ends help to bring back what ever was loss in strength.
Like I said I pulled out the cutoff/grinder #1 it was fast and # 2 eliminate some of the guessing. Takes longer to drill guess holes. Yea saw the dimples makes sense.. Live and learn.. Thanks for the reply..

Re: Window Motor 2001 Ford Windstar

Should have cruised this forum first. Had a drivers side window motor failue, voltage at motor & no action. Drilled rivets out just to find that the entire mechanism was under torque from that hidden clock spring. I had a spare motor from the rear window of my Contour (bought a used assy from e-bay for that one) You can just remove the motor from the motor/gear assy without cutting the door. With the appropriate sized torx socket and a 1/4 drive swivel, the two torx screws can be removed allowing the motor to drop from the gear assy. After motor is removed, the window can be pushed or pulled up & down. The motor from my 96 Contour looked identical except for the electrical connector. The worm screw on the shaft was also identical. Installed the other motor, had to jockey the worm gear into the gear assy and made some leads to adapt to the different wire connector. Installed short 1/4 bolts into previously drilled rivet holes & am back in business.

The replacement motor/gear unit that I bought new from Rock Auto for my '96 windstar required that the electrical connector be adapted as well.....as shown in my pictures.

Re: Window Motor 2001 Ford Windstar

Nice photos wiswind of your door repair. It would have greatly helped my learning curve to have checked them out first. If my used motor doesn't hold up I'll replace with an aftermarket assy.
