Hello all. My name is Scott and I have a 1990 Honda Civic Dx Hatch. I bought it in June and just insured it last week. I love this car. I installed a short ram intake system, racing exhaust (no cat back), clear corners, and clear bumper lights. It is a 4 speed manual. I would like to do an engine swap. Does anyone know which engine will be the cheapest that will fit into my car that will also add more hp? Also, I find it weird that the shifter just inserts directly into the ground. Does anyone know where I can get the cover with the boot in it or just the name of it.
Thanks Scott 90 Civic Dx Short Ram Intake Racing Exhaust Clear Corner lights Clear Bumper lights |

id go with the A6 if i were you, its easier to upgrade later than the ZC.

Great thanks for the info guys. But I am not familiar with the term Si D16A6. If I do get this engine, what else am I going to need to make it fit. Will I need a 5spd trans?

Re: Engine swap/shift boot holder thingy

As far as engines... I would suggest doing the MPFI swap (instructions can be found at http://www.4thgenerationcivic.com/ )... and then putting an Si transmission in. Wouldn't be an extreme boost of power (would be similar to swaping in the who D16A6 Si engine), but it would be enough to hold you over until you do some research and decide what you really want

A d16z6 or d16y8 would be pretty cheap also. And you'll get more hp than the a6. this is the 1.6 liter SOHC VTEC. The d16a6 is the 1.6 liter SOHC non-vtec. It all depends on how much money your looking to spend.

I think the ZC would be best for you. It's DOHC and has 130hp, and you can buy them with trannys.

Also get an Integra Console, it has cupholders and an armrest, and will cover up your shift and usually will come with the boot.

last time i checked........the MT 4G DX had 5 speed........and the MT STD/ Canadian CX had a 4speed.
either way.......it's a d series trans..........and if you're upgrading to the L3 4G Si trans.......i would recommend the Si axles.....since they're stronger (if you planning on building the motor later on). The D16Z6 swap is fairly cheap........but if you want to do it the correct way (w/o using a rpm activated swtich for the VTEC) and upgrade to OBD1, you will need a conversion harness..........or alter your entire harness (you gotta convert from DPFI to MPFI as well).........and get a hold of the MT P28 5G EX ecu.....and the Si trans would be nice as well.............hope that helped.........this is far too late to be talkin cars......heheh laterz
